Finally, finally I'm here with a review.... long process and it would be much longer if I wouldn't get code for a legal download (thanks Kelly and Euro Rock Radio). The thing is that my Screamworks limited edition still didn't arrived....and I set myself this rule, do not listen to album till I own it, so I resisted to HIM MySpace, I didn't even listened to the videos of Like St. Valentine and Shatter Me With Hope! Well, I heard Shatter Me With Hope and Heartkiller because I'm a proud owner of the single... And sure, I do not support illegally downloading.
This review will be divided into more parts, I have only album tracks, review of the bonus Baudelaire in Braille will come as soon as I put my hands on it....hope, I'll survive till then.
Konečne som tu s recenziou.... bol to dlhý proces a bol by ešte dlhší, keby som nedostala kód na legálne stiahnutie (vďaka Kelly a Euro Rock Radio). Problém bol v tom, že moja Screamworks limitovaná edícia stále nedošla.
...a mám také pravidlo, nevypočuť si album pokým ho nevlastním, takže som odolala HIM MySpace, nevypočula som si dokonca ani videá Like St. Valentine a Shatter Me With Hope! Vlastne, Shatter Me With Hope a Heartkiller som počula, keďže som hrdou majiteľkou singlu... No a samozrejme, ilegálne sťahovanie nepodporujem.
Táto recenzia bude rozdelená do viacerých častí, mám totiž len albumové skladby, recenzia na bonusový disk Baudelaire in Braille bude akonáhle sa mi dostane do rúk...dúfam že dovtedy prežijem.

Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice
In Venere Veritas
"Let's fall apart together now", ehm, I do not really like this beginning of the song. I understand that first seconds of album needs a strong phrase, something pretty remember-able, like in case of Razorblade Romance....but something disturbs me on it... nevermind, it is insignificant part of song.
From 00:40 "have no fear..." my goose-skin is up and I have no fear, this song will be sort of an anthem for lot of HIM fans. Meanwhile, I fully get and fall into album title Screamworks, because Ville screams and guys, he is screaming piercingly!
Scared To The Death
Again, I'm not sure if this keyboard intro was the best for the song, but soon as the chorus starts, I can see HIM in that song....it is pretty lyrical, catchy, with great Linde's guitar part.
"And you're sweet like poison", nice ending phrase.

Dying Song
Beautiful guitar and drums intro, then velvet voice of Mr. Valo.
At 02:13 I really appreciate space Linde got, the chorus is perfect and this song won't hurt their reputation for sure.
Disarm Me With Your Loneliness
It's interesting that more songs from album are behind me, the more I like it.
I'm pretty curious about acoustic version of this song.... for me, sort of lullaby full of sad lyric, nice guitars and undisturbing keyboards.
Great is 02:29 pause where only Valo's voice speaks to us, telling us a story about a broken heart.
Love, the Hardest Way
So many was said/written about this track.... sort of Razorblade Romance I would say, really HIM-y, catchy and this time I approve also Burton's added value :)
Well proportionally divided, great phrasing, my guess is - it might be the second HIM single.
Katherine Wheel
I'm thinking how to write what this song feels to me... it's interesting, guys really made sort of magic to this piece, so many transitions in so short, only something over three minutes long song...till now, the most questionable track... I hear bit of US sound feeling, bit of poppy aspects....but together with soft Ville's voice, guitars, bass-guitars...well, really interesting song.
If Ville wanted to make people to stop and ask WTF, as he mentioned in one of latest interviews, that this WTF feeling happened to me while hearing this song, but not in a bad way.
"These are the things you make me do", well yes, I broke my own personal rule to listen to the new album in the whole and replayed this song once again!
In The Arms Of Rain
Huh? What an intro! This song is pretty eighties.
Great musical as well lyrical part: "Ave Maria, we've tried, Ave Maria, we've cried, Ave Maria, we've died", I like his Finnish "R" :)
In this track is pretty visible the well done job of all band members.
Ode To solitude
First seconds of track feel like Depeche Mode and someone else (I was thinking maybe sort of The 69 Eyes sound)...
Whoa! 00:24 - 00:35 fantastic!!! I do not have another words, if they would spread this start of song to the whole three minutes, this would be, for sure, my favourite... but, they didn't and some parts didn't touched me... but then again, Linde's great work will make me to listen to this for sure.
I do not consider this song as the most direct or easiest HIM song, as Ville proclaims the whole album will be. Do not take this wrong, I like it, but just, with old these pauses, changes in depth of his voice, strong guitar riffs, I just don't think it's direct in any way.
Shatter Me With Hope
Again, preview of this song was published in Heartkiller review but, I have that feeling, this album one is bit different to single one, I'll check after I ended with this amazing album....
Btw, I didn't heard the whole album yet, but I think, this one is my favourite, and I would be happy to have it as single. I'm dressed in goose-skin for almost whole 230 seconds, my spine is narrowed each time the "Scream me a dream, untouched by shadows" is on.
Acoustic Funeral
Musically as lyrically not really easy for first hearing.... but I like backing vocals, and sort of a Bon Jovi guitars...
Dunno why, but it sounds to me a bit like Christmas song :)
Hm, this one probably will need more then one hearing.
Like st. Valentine
First 22 second so purely perfect, beautiful and amazing!!!!
For me personally didn't sound chorus right, but mostly because lyrics a Saint Valentine phrase....It's affected by my internal resistance for Valentine's Day. Fortunately, Linde's guitar balanced it somehow.
"Baby, let me be your Valentine, Saint Valentine" ehw, I'm not taking this, it sounds as cliché to me, although what Ville said about using word "baby"... but I admit, as soon as he starts screaming like being tortured by someone, gooses skin is back.
The Foreboding Sense Of Impending Happiness
I just paused the record for a while...to clear my head of all remains of melodies...again, so much was written about this track, than I needed to prepare myself for it :) Lot of fans said, it is almost not HIM, that it is something different. Ville itself said that it is the "oddball track of the record".
In first 33 seconds I can almost hear Dave Gahan....ok, I insist, I'm shivering...so soft, so breathtaking... I love it....
I don't know for who Ville wrote this song, in what kind of mood, personal life stage he was, but this song is something special, so personal that I almost feel bad about how I dare to listen, how I dare be drowning in the feelings which are not mine.
It may sound dramatically, but I just need to: Thank Lord of rock'n'roll that you blessed us with someone like Ville, no.... with someone like each member is.
In Venere Veritas
"Let's fall apart together now", ehm, nepáči sa mi tento začiatok piesne. Chápem, že už prvé sekundy albumu potrebujú nejakú silnú frázu, niečo ľahko zapamätateľné, tak ako to bolo v prípade Razorblade Romance.....ale niečo mi na tom prekáža... no nevadí, je to zanedbateľná časť skladby.
Od 00:40 "have no fear..." mi naskočila husia koža a skutočne nemám strach, táto skladba sa stane hymnou pre množstvo HIM fanúšikov. Inak, absolútne som porozumela a zamilovala si názov albumu, pretože Ville kričí a ľudia, kričí prenikavo!

A opäť, nie som si istá, či toto klávesové intro bolo to najlepšie, ale okamžite ako začne refrén, nachádzam v skladbe HIM.... je pekne lyrická, chytľavá, so skvelým Lindeho gitarovým sólom.
"And you're sweet like poison", pekné ukončenie.
Heartkiller
Myšlienky ohľadom tejto skladby (a taktiež jej Moordeb verzie) som už písala v recenzii na singel Heartkiller.

Krásne gitarové a bicie intro, potom zamatový hlas Vala.
V 02:13 oceňujem priestor pre Linde, taktiež refrén je perfektný a táto skladba iste neuškodí HIM reputácii.
Disarm Me With Your Loneliness
Je zaujímavé, že čím viac skladieb som si už vypočula, tým viac sa mi album páči.
Som celkom zvedavá na akustickú verziu tejto piesne....pre mňa je istým spôsobom ako uspávanka plná smutných slov, pekných gitár a nerušivých kláves.
Skvelá pasáž 02:29 kde sa nám prihovára len Villeho hlas, rozprávajúci príbeh o zlomenom srdci.
Love, the Hardest Way
Tak veľa bolo povedané/napísané o tejto skladbe.... povedala by som z časti ako z Razorblade Romance, riadne HIM, chytľavá a tentokrát schvaľujem aj Burtonov prínos.
Dobre propocionálne rozvrhnutá, so skvelým frázovaním, môj odhad je - mohla by byť ďalším HIM singlom.

Rozmýšlam ako opísať ako táto skladba na mňa pôsobí... je zaujímavá, chalani v nej predviedli takpovediac hudobnú mágiu, tak veľa prechodov v tak krátkej, len niečo cez tri minúty dlhej piesni....doteraz, asi najviac otázna skladba... Počujem v nej americký zvuk, popové aspekty....ale spolu s Villeho jemným hlasom, gitarami, basgitarami...nuž, skutočne zaujímavá skladba.
Ak chcel Ville dosiahnuť toho aby sa ľudia zasekli a pýtali sa samých seba čo to má byť, ako spomenul v jednom z posledných rozhovorov, tak potom toto sa stalo mne pri tejto skladbe, ale nie v zlom zmysle.
"These are the things you make me do", nuž áno, porušila som moje vlastné pravidlo vypočuť si album v jednom celku a prehrala som si túto pieseň ešte raz!
In The Arms Of Rain
Huh? To je intro! Táto pieseň znie dosť alá 80.roky.
Skvelá hudobná ako aj lyrická časť: "Ave Maria, we've tried, Ave Maria, we've cried, Ave Maria, we've died", milujem jeho fínske "R" :)
V tejto skladbe je viditeľná dobre odvedená práca všetkých členov.

Nepovažujem túto pieseň za jednu z tých priamych alebo ľahkých HIM piesní, napriek tomu že Ville tvrdil že v takom duchu sa bude album niesť. Neberte to v zlom, páči sa mi, len proste, so všetkými tými prestávkami, zmenami hĺbky hlasu, silnými gitarovými rifmi, proste si nemyslím že by bola jedna z priamych skladieb.
Shatter Me With Hope
Recenzia tejto skladby bola už uverejnená v Heartkiller recenzii ale, mám ten pocit, že albumová a singlová verzia je rozdielna, skontrolujem to hneď ako skončím s týmto úžasným albumom....
Mimochodom, ešte som si nevypočula celý album, ale myslím, že táto pieseň je moja najobľúbenejšia a bola by som rada, keby sa stala singlom. Husiu kožu mám na sebe takmer celých 230 sekúnd, chrbtica sa mi narovná zakaždým ako zaznie "Scream me a dream, untouched by shadows".

Hudobne aj textom nie jednoduchá na prvé vypočutie... páčia sa mi ale vedľajšie vokály a také akoby Bon Jovi gitary...
Neviem prečo, ale znie mi tak trocha ako Vianočná pieseň :)

Like st. Valentine
Prvých 22 sekúnd je tak neskutočne perfektných, krásnych a úžasných!!!
Pre mňa osobne neznie refrén najlepšie, ale hlavne kvôli textu a fráze Saint Valentine.... Je to ovplyvnené mojím vnútorným odporom voči sviatku Sv. Valentína. Našťastie Lindeho gitara to nejak vyrovnáva.
"Baby, let me be your Valentine, Saint Valentine" ehw, toto neberiem, znie mi to ako klišé, napriek tomu čo Ville hovoril o používaní slova "baby"... ale pripúšťam, hneď ako začne kričať ako keby ho niekto týral, husiu kožu mám späť.

Nachvíľu som to vypla...prečistiť si hlavu o zvyšku doznievajúcich melódií...opäť, toľko bolo o tejto skladbe popísané, že sa na ňu musím pripraviť :) Veľa fanúšikov povedalo, že neznie ani ako HIM, že je to niečo odlišné. Sám Ville povedal, že je to "čudná skladba albumu".
V prvých 33 sekundách až takmer počujem Dava Gahana....ok, pripúšťam, chvejem sa...tak nežné, dych vyrážajúce...milujem ju....
Netuším pre koho písal Ville túto pieseň, v akej nálade, v životnom rozpoložení bol, ale táto pieseň je niečo špeciálne, tak osobné až sa takmer cítim zle, že sa opovažujem počúvať, utápať sa v pocitoch, ktoré nie sú moje.
Možno to bude znieť dramaticky, ale musím: Vďaka rock'n'rollový Bože, že si nás požehnal niekým ako Ville, vlastne nie...niekým ako každý jeden člen je.
